The Holland Family has a vast history covering many generations. So far we have found family members dating back to 1824. On this page we’ll provide you with a brief history of the family. When you come to the family reunion you will learn and discover even more.
1824 – Jack and Emily – Holland, Mary Holland
Jack Holland was born a slave in Tennessee in 1824. In those times he worked on a cotton plantation owned by Spearman Holland. Spearman was a member of the State Legislature in Tennessee. In 1842 Spearman moved his family and slaves to Piney Woods of East Texas. As you know slave life is a hard life and Jack died at age forty. But during the years of his life he had four sons and one daughter, Milton Murray, Carson, Mary, John Calvin and Meteon. He was married to Emily Holland who was born in 1830.
1858 – John Calvin and Mary Holland- 1861, Halia Hollins – 1882
John Calvin was born on May 15, 1858 in Texas. He married Mary in 1879. Together they had eight children (the eight branches represented in our family reunion)
Family members from the union are listed below and we’ll be updating you as new information comes in.
Our Situation
Some of our family members have been in contact with each other by the region of the country in which they live. The goal of the California branches of the family is to first keep us united. Second to re-establish contact with family members who live in Texas, Louisiana and other parts.During our youth my cousins in remember visits from Aunt Ida from Texas. We loved Aunt Ida and would love to see her siblings and the Holland family in Texas.
Reunion
We have a nice weekend planned for our family to re-acquaint ourselves with each other and meet new family members who will carry this family forward. Patriarchs of the family will be speaking and sharing stories of our family history. There will be fun, great food and dancing too!
You won’t want to miss this celebration of the Holland Family!
The branch pages will be expanded as time progresses.
